Welcome to my NYC Terry Fox Run team page!

WHY AM I DOING THIS?

As many of you know, back when I was in my 1st year of undergrad, on December 14, 2014, I was diagnosed with stage II primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma, a form of DLBCL / non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. I dropped out of university to undergo cancer treatment (R-CHOP chemo radiaition), which at the time had ~72% cure rate.

Fortunately, upon completion of my chemotherapy regiment, on April 13, 2015, I was in complete remission! And this year (2025) marks 10 years of being cancer free!!!!! :D

And so, in celebration of good health this past decade (and hopefully for the rest of my life!), I wanted to start a run team for one of the most "Canadian" traditions/events in NYC - the Terry Fox Run!

WHO IS TERRY FOX?

Terry Fox is a Canadian hero who began the "Marathon of Hope" to raise money for cancer research. He had his leg amputated due to osteosarcoma, but despite this physical challenge, he insisted on trying to run from coast to coast across Canada to fundraise. Unfortunately, he couldn't complete his cross-country marathon because his cancer eventually spread to his lungs and ultimately took his life :(

In honour of Terry Fox, Canadian schools & towns will host an annual Terry Fox Run to carry on the Marathon of Hope and raise money for this terrible disease!

IS THIS FREE?

YES! Signing up for the run is free, and it even includes post-run snacks & a free T-shirt!

But if you do want to donate (which is totally optional), 100% of every dollar you give supports new research directed by Dr. Renier Brentjens at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). Dr. Brentjens? lab focuses on immunotherapy research to treat acute and chronic leukemias.

"No matter how promising the research or how inspired the scientists, nothing can happen without the resources to fund the work. We now have many reasons to feel hopeful about using T cells in the treatment of many kinds of cancer, and we wouldn't be where we are without the support from organizations like The Terry Fox Run." ~ Dr. Renier Brentjens
